Standing Up For What I Knew Was Right

One day when I was driving on the freeway, I was completely blindsided by another car pummeling down the hill. I didn't know what to do or what went wrong, but I knew things were bad. I couldn't feel my feet at first, and my face was covered in liquid that turned out to be blood. When the ambulance arrived I could see the concern on their faces, and it was frustrating to know what was about to come. Fortunately, I was able to get great medical care, and talk with a personal injury attorney that helped me to sort out everything else. Who Can You Sue After AaMotorcycle Accident?

by Dylan Tucker

Since motorcycles are open air vehicles, getting into an accident can cause serious injuries. If you were in a serious motorcycle accident, there are a few different parties that you may be able to sue to cover your medical bills and recovery costs.

#1 The Other Driver

The first person that you potentially sue is the other driver who was involved in the accident. This is a good course of action if it is clear that the other driver was responsible for the accident. If it is unclear who is responsible for the accident, or if most of the responsibility for the accident lies with you, this is not a good course of action.

Usually the police and insurance companies will try to assign responsibility for the accident. If you feel that the other parties really are to blame for the accident, you can always use a specialist who recreates accidents to dispute their reports.

#2 Road Authority

Poor road conditions can be very serious for motorcycle riders. A road with pot holes or that is not patched correctly can have serious consequences. For example, a pot hole can send you off your trajectory and cause an accident.

If the road where you have an accident was in really bad shape, you may be able to sue the government authority who is responsible for taking care of that road. Your attorney would need to investigate and figure out which government authority is responsible for that road. Also, keep in mind that the window for suing a government authority is generally shorter than the overall window for suing another party for a personal injury lawsuit.

#3 Bike Manufacture or Motorcycle Dealership

If the motorcycle equipment itself is behind the cause of the accident, you can go after the bike manufacture or the motorcycle dealership. If you just bought the bike in the past year, and the bike had issues that the dealership did not tell you about, you can go after the dealership where you bought the bike. If the bike has a problem that was connected to the manufacturing of the bike, then you could sue the manufacturer of the bike.

If you were involved in a bike accident, hire a motorcycle accident attorney right away. He or she can help you determine what parties you can sue in order to get compensation for injuries related to your motorcycle accident.
